FRIDAY FICTIONEERS - THE SIGNAL - My 100 Words by LINDA PALUND

THE SIGNAL

What a mess.  The focus so poorly set, how could we discern the signal from this picture?  What were we supposed to make of it?
Was it the plant?  Or were we supposed to decode the drops of rain that clung to the window like spider’s eggs?
What was the significance of the purple foil? Or the three blossoms, the two unopened pods?
With focus this poor, it was like trying to hear the roar of the ocean from the top of a skyscraper.
            They’ve translated the signal. Lilies.
Lilies mean peace. We understand now.
            We won’t attack this planet.

  5. Yes, it is a mess. I'm not sure there's much to be gained by attacking this planet. Still, I'm glad the lillies spoke up for peace.

  10. Hi Linda,
I'm going to be releasing some doves every day to ward off alien attack. Great interp of the photo. If you put that purple foil on your head, you can save yourself from falling under the control of the aliens. And I'll bet you look good in purple. Ron

    1. You are right on every point - I look great in purple and tinfoil hats are the next fashion sensation. Everyone wears one in Roswell, and as goeth Roswell, thus goeth the high street!

  13. This is a wonderfully imaginative take on the prompt. I really enjoyed the way you highlighted each aspect and then came back to the lilies as a peace signal. Loved it.
